El fundador de Amazon, Jeff Bezos, anunció este lunes que él y su hermano Mark viajarán en el primer vuelo de turismo del cohete New Shepard, fabricado por su compañía espacial, Blue Origin, programado para el próximo 20 de julio.

Según anunció la compañía en su página web, los hermanos se sumarán al ganador de una subasta organizada por Blue Origin en la que se rematará un lugar en la primera nave de turismo en volar al espacio, quizás la apuesta más importante del magnate.

"Ver la Tierra desde el espacio te cambia, cambia tu relación con la humanidad, con la tierra", dijo Bezos en un video publicado en sus redes sociales.
Se estima que el viaje durará apenas 10 minutos aunque el tiempo que los pasajeros pasarán en el verdadero espacio exterior será aún menor, ya que se calcula que serán cuatro los minutos que navegarán tras cruzar la línea Karman que marca la frontera entre la atmósfera terrestre y el espacio.

"Desde que tenía cinco años, he soñado con viajar al espacio", dijo Bezos en sus redes, y señaló: "El 20 de julio, haré ese viaje con mi hermano, Mark".Hasta ahora, Blue Origin lleva recaudado con la subasta 2,8 millones de dólares y participaron más de 6.000 personas de 143 países.

El ganador podrá subirse al New Shepard, un cohete reutilizable que lleva el nombre del primer estadounidense que viajó al espacio, Alan Shepard, tras el viaje iniciativo del soviético Yuri Gagarin.

Lo recaudado en la subasta será utilizado para "inspirar a las generaciones futuras" a continuar con las carreras espaciales y "ayudar a inventar el futuro de la vida en el espacio".
